3 Soulful Ways to Embrace the Fall Season
It’s that time of the year again, where nature shows me the beauty of change.
This is one of my favorite season changes from summer to fall. When the air goes from humid to crisp, when my wardrobe goes from t-shirt to adding a sweater, and when I begin to say it’s getting dark earlier instead of late.
In my life I’ve learned that if I really enjoyed summer to the fullest, I’m ready for autumn, with no regrets and excitement for the change of pace. That is the soul wisdom I have gained through embracing the seasons and living in sync with nature’s rhythms year after year.
If you want to give it a try and begin aligning with nature’s seasons, here are my 3 soulful ways to embrace the fall month ahead:
Mindful Walks
Too often we see the change of seasons during car/bus/subway rides or rushed lunch breaks. Fall is best experienced with mindful walks.
l leave the phone at home and go for a walk with the sole intention to observe nature. I notice how her colors and shapes are changing. I experience where the sun is and how its position is changing based on the sunlight hours diminishing. Sometimes I see the moon out during the day and take note if it is a full or new moon, maybe waxing or waning. I feel the temperature and experience the weather conditions.
I love observing the fresh new energy of a new season. I wonder how my own season of life is changing too.
Start A New Journal
I have been an avid journaler since I was young. I used to buy one journal per year, but since my writings have become almost daily, I can easily go through 2-4 in a year. I try to begin a new journal in line with the new season.
You don’t have to necessarily buy a new journal. I’ve often found old notebooks I had for school or work that I only used a few pages. I rip them out and begin using it as my new journal.
When I do decide to buy a new journal, I check in with my mood and intuition. I like to get a journal that represents me. This fall I have a beautiful new journal with a Celtic style M monogram on the front, makes me think of my trip to Ireland this summer.
Starting a new journal is, for me, another signal and symbol of change on the horizon. I’m ready to document all I have observed in my mindful walks and express my feelings and emotions in a healthy way. It is also easy to look back at previous seasons when I have them organized this way.
Bring Nature Indoors
A beautiful way to embrace the seasons is to bring the scents and sights into your living space. There are many easy ways you can do this.
You can bring in some fallen pine cones, acorns, and leaves and place in a bowl on a table.
I also love to buy an apple scented candle to bring the scents of apple orchards into my home.
Last but not least, you can also make a home-made potpourri with seasonal items you have on hand or available at your local grocery store. You can add cinnamon sticks, apples, pears, rosemary. Use your imagination and choose what you like.
By bringing the seasons indoors, it is a wonderful way to let your mind, body, and soul know it is a new time of the year. It helps you align with nature by witnessing her not only outside, but also inside.
These are my three favorite ways to begin the fall season.
The most important tip is to have fun. Maybe you won’t exactly do what I have suggested but instead get inspired, have a spark to find your own favorite ways to embrace this rich new time of the year.
Heartfully,
Meg
